Special Ed Consultants

Mid-Ohio ESC provides special education administrative support to client school districts through the availability of Special Education Consultants/Coordinators. The consultants/coordinators provide a number of services to client districts. They may coordinate preschool services, attend IEP meetings serving as district representatives, and arrange services for students transitioning from early intervention to preschool and preschool to kindergarten. Consultants/coordinators often serve as district representatives at out-of-district meetings and may also provide leadership at IEP meetings within the district for school-age students through age twenty-one. They provide information and guidance regarding special education laws and also may maintain rosters of students with disabilities, assisting districts in compliance with timelines. In addition, they provide data and assistance for child count through the EMIS system and complete action plans for those client districts that have not met all expected indicators.

Mid-Ohio ESC Special Education Consultants/Coordinators assist with training in the use of special education software programs for writing IEPs, as well as any changes/updates in those programs. They assist with Alternate Assessment issues and in the provision of FAPE (Free Appropriate Public Education). Their goal is to help districts maintain high quality special education services, stay in compliance, and avoid due process hearings. Mid-Ohio ESC’s consultants also act as liaisons between the school districts and families.
