Champion Maggie Sheridan

After 7 rounds of competition, Maggie Sheridan, an eighth grader from Lexington Middle School, is the Tri-County Spelling Bee Champion for the third consecutive year after spelling the championship word, ‘Pompeii’, which was an ancient city in western Italy.  Maggie was also this year’s Richland County champion. Katie Sheridan, Maggie’s sister, also an eighth grader from Lexington, was the runner-up.

Thirty-one spellers competed in the bee held on February 8, at Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center in Mansfield. This year’s Tri-County Spelling Bee was comprised of the top twelve spellers in Crawford, Richland and Morrow Counties representing fourteen local school districts.

Every speller received a certificate and the champion and first runner-up received trophies.  Certificates and trophies are provided by the Mansfield News Journal.
