2nd Annual Career Day at F.I.R.S.T
F.I.R.S.T. School held their 2nd Annual Career Day in May of this year. The career day was held in conjunction with In-Demand Jobs Ohio week #InDemandOhio!.
During the first half of the day students were able to hear from various business professionals who spoke about their careers. They spoke about the responsibilities for each career along with the education required and all the other variables that led them down their path. This year's business professionals included; Dr. Christine McElfresh-Physical Therapy and Mobility Specialist, Samara Jenkins-Pastor, Dr. John Shuler-Veterinarian, Terri Stephens-Huntington Bank, Andrew Buck and Dr. Izzo-The Ohio State University EnVision IT program, Mary Anne of Mary Anne’s Meats, Jeff Van Dyne-Certified Medical Assistant, and a representative from the Marine Corp.
The second half of the day featured a key note address from Nashville singer/songwriter Tony Lucca. Tony spoke about his early days with the Mickey Mouse Club, which led to a brief acting career. He also discussed being on The Voice year 2 and coming in 3rd place, which secured a record deal with Adam Levine of Maroon 5. Music was always his true passion, and he is lucky to have music be his career now. Tony spoke about the different pivots in life where you are required to make a decision, to experience ultimate fulfillment in your job, and having the ability to express gratitude for highs and lows. Tony finished his address by singing 3 songs and having one of the students and their choir director join him on stage. Tony was excited to visit F.I.R.S.T, as you can see by this video clip from Good Day Columbus. Tony's son Liam also attended the event and performed along with his dad.
Thank you to everyone that participated and helped to make a difference with our students. It is amazing to see the impact the students also have on the guest.
