Mansfield, OH (September 8, 2026) – Mid-Ohio ESC is excited to continue the Student Leadership Conference on October 20, 2026 with a sponsorship from the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA). The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to Crawford, Morrow and Richland County schools who are members of the OHSAA. 

Students will enjoy an interactive and engaging day exploring leadership practices and will return to their districts with a plan to influence positive change in their schools and community. 

The conference aims to increase leadership capacities among students by giving them an opportunity outside of their home district to develop leadership and collaboration skills. The goal of this opportunity is to prepare students to assume leadership roles and become change agents. Bringing students from different districts delivers the possibilities of various perspectives and learning experiences.

All client/partnering districts will be able to send 25 students free of charge. Districts can choose to send students who have attended in previous years or send students who have not attended an event in the past. Mid-Ohio asks that each school send at least one chaperone with their students. Donuts, refreshments and lunch will be provided to students and chaperones at no cost.

The Keynote Speaker for the conference will be Doug Ute. Doug Ute is a passionate leader and lifelong educator who believes in the power of perseverance, teamwork, and student success. As executive director of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), he stepped into leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and ensured that student-athletes across Ohio could safely compete and complete their seasons—proving that strong leadership can overcome any challenge.

MOESC's Executive Director of Achievement and Leadership, Dr. Mark Burke, Jr., said, "Student leaders bring a level of excitement and enthusiasm that our adult leaders struggle to match. We encourage all area schools to join this day of leadership and learning.”

Mansfield, OH (September 1, 2026) – The Richland County Foundation recently awarded grants for this school year to local teachers across Richland County for their creative or supplemental programs not covered by school funding. The grants are awarded to individual classroom teachers or small teams of classroom teachers with a maximum grant amount of $1,500.

This year, two Abraxas teachers received Education Grants:

Rachel Jamieson, The Page Turner Grant: Igniting a Love for Literacy, $1,339.00 

Julie Pfeifer, Art Across the Curriculum, $1,491.68

“I am profoundly grateful to the Margaret Ann Lindley Fund of the Richland County Foundation for their incredible generosity in approving my ‘Page Turner Grant: Igniting a Love for Learning,’” said Rachel Jamieson. “This grant will provide the vital resources needed to engage our underserved students, foster critical literacy skills needed and inspire a lifelong passion for reading,” she continued. “This grant will help build a classroom library; it will help our school implement a peer-to-peer mentor-reading program and it will engage reluctant readers with material that appeals to them.”

Jamieson explained that the grant will also provide materials, soft lighting and manipulatives for those students with ADHD and Autism. The goal of the grant is to transform reluctant readers into engaged, lifelong learners by providing access to high interest materials and fostering supportive, community-based reading relationships. 

Julie Pfeifer expressed her appreciation to the Richland County Foundation: “I am so thankful to the Richland County Foundation for their support of the community and my classroom through the RCF Fellows Fund. The Richland County Foundation approved funding for my grant 'Art Across the Curriculum,' enabling me to utilize various art projects across Algebra, Geometry and Lifeskills to cement understanding through real world connections. This will connect math, literacy and career opportunities, allowing for a more rounded understanding of the concepts students are learning.”

Jolene Edwards, the Abraxas School of Ohio principal, said, “Abraxas School of Ohio is blessed to have amazing teachers who always choose to go above and beyond for our students. A prime example would be writing grants to provide unique opportunities for our student population. I’m also very grateful for the Richland County Foundation and their continued support to our school through the grant funding.”

Mansfield, OH (August 25, 2026) – The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) is launching the 2026–2027 school year with exciting news for regional educators: both of its K-12 Instructional Networks, the K–3 Literacy Network and the Creating Connections to Content (C3) Adolescent Literacy Network, will be completely free for all client and member districts this year.  

Two Networks, One Shared Commitment  

The K–3 Literacy Network continues to bring together K–3 teachers, intervention specialists, instructional coaches, curriculum leaders and administrators from across the region. The C3 Adolescent Literacy Network serves educators in grades 4-12, addressing the unique challenges of literacy instruction in the secondary content areas.  

Amber Clay-Mowry, MOESC's Director of Leadership & Learning, said, "Some of the best ideas in this network come from a teacher in one district hearing how another district solved the exact same problem. That connection, districts learning from each other instead of working in isolation, is what makes this network valuable.”

This year, districts get unlimited access to all 15 sessions across both networks at no cost, including new math sessions for K-3 and intervention teams, new sessions supporting gifted and advanced learners, literacy practices spanning every K-12 content area and leadership coaching and planning support.  

For Dr. Mark Burke, Executive Director of Achievement and Leadership, that access is the point. "These networks are about building capacity that stays in our districts long after a session ends," he said. "Removing the cost barrier this year means every district, regardless of size or budget, can bring their educators to the table."  

Educators who have previously attended MOESC networks consistently praise the collaboration, coaching and immediately applicable tools shared during sessions, returning to their classrooms and buildings equipped to put new strategies into practice right away.

Both networks run sessions from September through May and meet at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center.

Mansfield, OH (August 18, 2026) – Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center is dedicated to promoting professional development among area educators, administrators and other staff. Registration is currently open for our next round of network meetings in September to be held on the Mid-Ohio campus, 890 W. Fourth Street in Mansfield. During the scheduled network meetings, additional information about Ohio's Learning Standards, Extended Standards and practical challenges will be given. These meetings are designed to provide a combination of professional learning, ODE updates, networking and collaborative problem-solving. The dates and times for each session are as follows: 

● Technology Directors: September 8, 2026; 8:30-11 AM

● School Counselors: September 22, 2026; 9-10:30 AM

Mansfield, OH (August 13, 2026) — MOESC is once again holding a hybrid Resident Educator Mentor Academy Training. New mentors to the Resident Educator Program are required to successfully complete the 12-hour Mentor Academy Training to receive state mentor certification. The Academy focuses on the role of the mentor and the critical components of instructional mentoring. Mentors are introduced to the essential content of mentoring to prepare them to support the instructional growth and development of Resident Educators.

The hybrid training requires participants to access both the ODE Learning Management System and the Virtual Zoom meetings.

To be certified as a Resident Educator mentor, participants will engage in eight hours of self-guided online work over a two-week period and participate in two, 2-hour Zoom meetings facilitated by State Mentor Trainers, Shannon Beach and Matthew Fannon. 

Register on Stars/OH|ID. Registration is not complete until you email your name and your training dates to Shannon Beach at shannon.beach@escco.org. This will allow you to receive important information and materials for this training. The cost of the training is $150. Payments can be made to Mid-Ohio ESC via Credit Card.

Resident Educator Mentor Academy Training Flyer

Mansfield, OH (August 11, 2026) – The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) has finalized details for its 2026-2027 TurboCert Program, following an initial draft communication released by Superintendent Kevin Kimmel in June. The high-quality credentialing program is designed to expand career-connected learning experiences for regional students. MOESC has outlined the program structure, cost-saving subsidies and updated state reimbursement projections for the upcoming school year.

The standard cost for each TurboCert program is $1,500 per student, per semester (spanning 16 sessions). This fee covers instructor expenses and all required student materials. To maximize district participation and student access, MOESC is heavily subsidizing the specialized equipment, supplies and program coordinator costs.

Additionally, students enrolled in the Phlebotomy pathway will participate for two semesters. To support this extended track, MOESC will completely subsidize one semester of tuition for the 2026-2027 school year, maintaining the total cost for the Phlebotomy pathway at $1,500.

Districts can continue to offset participation costs through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce’s (ODEW) Innovative Workforce Incentive Program (IWIP). Additional details will be provided by the state regarding funding.  2026-2027 Regional Program Schedule

TurboCert courses will be hosted across three regional counties:

• Crawford County (Fridays): Hosted at the Crawford Success Center (130 N. Walnut Street, Bucyrus, OH). Programs include Phlebotomy (spanning 1st and 2nd semesters with 2nd-semester clinical labs), Drone Operations and Safety (1st Semester), and Manufacturing – FANUC Robotics and NIMS (1st Semester).
• Morrow County (Fridays): Hosted at the Miller Family Center Building (3700 County Road 168, Cardington, OH). Programs include OpTIC Fiber Splicing Training (1st Semester) and FANUC Robotics (2nd Semester).
• Richland County (Mondays): Hosted at MOESC (890 W. 4th Street, Mansfield, OH). Programs include Phlebotomy (spanning 1st and 2nd semesters with 2nd-semester clinical labs).

MOESC is actively working to add more credentials for the second semester.
