Clear Fork Valley Local Schools Announces Superintendent Search

Bellville, OH (January 16, 2025) – The Clear Fork Valley Local School District, located in Richland County, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Superintendent. The Board is in search of a visible leader who has the ability and willingness to collaborate fairly with faculty, staff, students and families. The successful candidate is expected to have a personal involvement and interest in the community. The expected start date of the new superintendent will be August 1, 2025.

Qualified applicants must possess the following qualifications and experiences: Master’s degree with valid Ohio School Superintendent license or evidence that one is obtainable; demonstrates community involvement and visibility; works as a collaborative team with the Board, Treasurer, staff and community stakeholders; tenaciously pursues the vision for the district while skillfully carrying out operational details, overcoming obstacles and accomplishing objectives; effectively communicates verbally and in writing with the Board and a variety of audiences in a proactive and timely manner; displays transparency in delivering high quality presentations and communications for the Board and stakeholders; approaches challenges and problem solving with creativity and innovation; demonstrates organizational and leadership skills; knowledge of Ohio Revised Code as it relates to school operations and superintendent responsibilities; works well with others; displays a positive, optimistic demeanor while modeling a high standard of professional conduct and inspiring leadership.

Kimmel expressed his enthusiasm to partner with the Clear Fork Valley Local Schools Board of Education to find the best candidate to help lead the district. “As a client district of Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center, we are assisting the district with the search for their next Superintendent at no cost to the district.”

MOESC Holds First High School SLP Mentorship Program Kickoff Event

Mansfield, OH (January 15, 2025) – The Mid-Ohio ESC launched its first High School Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Mentorship Program Kickoff Event on January 13, 2025, at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center. District Superintendents, Student Services Directors and Speech-Language Pathology Mentors were in attendance to participate in the inaugural event.

The Mid-Ohio SLP Mentorship Development Team, comprised of SLP Mentorship Coordinator Kevin Fourman; SLP Mentorship Consultant Leslie Reid with Highland Local Schools; and Mid-Ohio ESC Regional SLP Consultant Johanna Gilland, developed the SLP Mentorship Program. This program is designed to support the professional growth and career aspirations of district Speech-Language Therapist Mentors and selected SLP High School Student Mentees.

Mid-Ohio ESC Superintendent Kevin Kimmel welcomed attendees, describing the initiative as a part of a strategic plan to enhance recruitment and retention in the Speech and Language Pathology field starting at the high school level. The coordinator and SLP consultants outlined the program expectations and included goals for the SLP mentors and mentees. Specifically, each mentee will gain exposure to the role of the speech-language pathologist, shadow SLP Mentors and explore these career opportunities with local higher education institutions. The Mentorship Program encourages active student engagement as they develop their skills and gain guidance and support from experienced SLP mentors.

Madeline Collins, a graduate of the SLP Graduate Development Program, shared insights and advice with the mentees and offered recommendations to the high school mentees as they enter each phase of the SLP Career Continuum from High School Mentorship to Graduate School.

Each Mentee in the 2025 Speech Language Pathology Mentorship Program will have the opportunity to earn a $500 scholarship on behalf of The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center Board of Governors and the Richland County Community Connection Grant.

Mid-Ohio ESC Recognized by Ohio Senate for Outstanding Achievement

Mansfield, OH (January 7, 2025) – MOESC recently received recognition from Senator Matt Huffman, President of the Ohio Senate; Senator Bill Reineke, 26th Senatorial District; and Senator Mark Romanchuk, 22nd Senatorial District, on behalf of the members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly of Ohio for receiving a Speech-Language Pathology and School Psychology Consultant Grant for the 2024-2025 school year. 

“On behalf of the Mid-Ohio ESC Board of Governors and administration, I want to thank the Senate leadership for this recognition that was made possible by Director of Student Services, Jennifer Crum,” said Superintendent Kevin Kimmel. “I appreciate Jen’s dedication and work to bring these additional resources to support our region in the areas of speech-language pathology and school psychology services.” 

This grant will significantly bolster support for districts across central Ohio, enhancing the quality and compliance of speech-language and school psychology services. One of the primary aims of this initiative is to address the critical shortage of qualified professionals in rural areas, particularly for Speech-Language Pathologists and School Psychologists. This grant enables Mid-Ohio ESC to expand its "Grow Your Own" Development Programs, starting with the High School Mentorship program. The goal is to prepare and mentor highly qualified candidates ready for certification in these fields.

In the recognition letter, Senators Huffman, Renieke, and Romanchuk wrote, “With the funds from its new Speech-Language Pathology and School Psychology Consultant Grant, MOESC will be able to focus on enhancing the quality and compliance of speech-language and school psychology services through the hiring of new staff and experts, and clearly, this grant is a justifiable source of pride and an excellent reflection not only on the organization itself but also on its leadership and staff and on the community.”

Mid-Ohio ESC Board Sets January Meeting, Recognizes Dedicated Staff

Mansfield, OH (December 23, 2024) – At their December 18th regular board meeting, The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center Board of Governors presented Susan James with a certificate of commendation for exemplary service and meeting the needs of Mid-Ohio ESC and Print Shop.

Dr. Mark Burke, Executive Director of Achievement and Leadership, expressed his gratitude, stating, “Susan exemplifies exceptional multitasking abilities in her role as our front office administrative assistant. She efficiently handles the processing of fingerprinting, manages substitute teacher applications and oversees print orders in our print shop. Her remarkable work ethic and unwavering dedication to our clients and visitors are truly commendable.”

Superintendent Kevin Kimmel also conveyed his appreciation: “I appreciate Ms. James’ dedication to MOESC and for her outstanding customer service approach.”

In addition, at their regular meeting, the Board set their January organizational & regular meeting for Wednesday, January 15, 2024 12:00 p.m.

MOESC Honors Steve and Lorraine Earnest's Remarkable Service

Mansfield, OH (December 20, 2024) – The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) Board of Governors convened on Wednesday, December 18, 2025 to honor two esteemed members of the MOESC family, Steve and Lorraine Earnest, as they attended their final board meeting. Both are set to retire at the end of December, marking the conclusion of their remarkable tenures at MOESC.

Steve Earnest will conclude his impactful career at MOESC after serving two separate tenures that collectively span a decade while Lorraine Earnest will retire after 21.5 years of dedicated service. The Board of Governors acknowledged their unwavering commitment and significant contributions to MOESC.

Board President Doug Theaker expressed his gratitude, stating, "In my 50-plus years as a Board member, I have had the opportunity to work with many good employees. Certainly, at the top of my list are Steve and Lorraine Earnest. They are good people, and they have performed excellently. They will be sorely missed, but the time comes in one’s career when the end is here. I wish them the best. Godspeed and I love them both."

Superintendent Kevin Kimmel also conveyed his appreciation, noting, "Steve and Lorraine have made a big impact on my professional career, and Mid-Ohio ESC would not be the strong organization that it is today without them. Their many years of service and dedication to MOESC will never be forgotten, and I wish them all the best in their future endeavors."

Treasurer/CFO Brenda Miller added, "Steve and Lorraine's dedication and exemplary character have left a lasting impression on everyone they have worked with, inspiring those around them to continue to grow and succeed. Their presence will be deeply missed, but their contributions will continue to guide and empower Mid-Ohio ESC for years to come."

As Steve and Lorraine Earnest prepare to embark on new chapters in their lives, MOESC extends heartfelt thanks and best wishes for their future endeavors. Their legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire excellence and dedication within the Mid-Ohio ESC community.

Buckeye Central Local School District Joins Mid-Ohio ESC

Mansfield, OH (December 19, 2024) – Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center is pleased to welcome Buckeye Central Local Schools as a client district. Buckeye Central Local Schools Board of Education approved the move to Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center at their December 12, 2024 regular Board meeting. The Mid-Ohio ESC Board of Governors approved Buckeye Central Local Schools’ petition for membership at their regular meeting on December 18, 2024. Buckeye Central Local Schools’ membership will commence on July 1, 2025.

MOESC Superintendent Kevin Kimmel congratulated the district on the partnership: “On behalf of the Mid-Ohio ESC Board of Governors and Directors, we would like to welcome Buckeye Central Local School District, and we look forward to supporting their students and staff.”

Kimmel welcomed their return and revealed that Mid-Ohio ESC had previously served Buckeye Central Local Schools as a client district: “We welcome the opportunity to grow our partnership and to support the positive direction of the district. Being a proud Buckeye Central alumni and former employee, I look forward to building on the existing partnerships and relationships within the district and community to help them meet their needs.”
