Tri-County Spelling Bee Crowns 2025 Champion

Mansfield, OH (February 14, 2025) – The 2025 Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center spelling bee season concluded with resounding success, showcasing the exceptional spelling talents of students across Crawford, Morrow and Richland counties on Thursday, February 13th at Mid-Ohio ESC in Mansfield, Ohio. An impressive group of 26 of the top spellers were invited to compete to be the Tri-County Spelling Bee Champion. The competition included spellers from 13 local school districts in grades 4-8. 

After several intense rounds of competition, Quinn Ramsey, an eighth grader from Crestview and Lily Mills, an 8th grader from St. Joseph, Crestline went head-to-head for several more rounds before Quinn claimed the title of Spelling Bee Champion with the correct spelling of “fungi.” Runner-up honors were awarded to Lily.

“The spelling bee events give our students with academic talents the chance to be in the public spotlight,” said Colleen Haynes, the spelling bee coordinator for Mid-Ohio ESC. “We are proud to host events like the Tri-County Spelling Bee to allow those students a chance to shine and celebrate their hard work and dedication to academics and their passion for learning and growth. Congratulations to Quinn and Lily, as well as all of the spellers on a great competition! We are looking forward to next year!”

MOESC to Host Hiring Event

Mansfield, OH (February 11, 2025) – Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center is excited to announce a hiring event for client and partner school districts at the Mid-Ohio ESC Conference Center, 890 Fourth Street, Mansfield, on Thursday, March 6th, from 8:30 am to noon. This event aims to attract both new graduates seeking licensure and licensed K-12 educators, as well as professionals currently working in education, related services staff (speech and language pathologists, school psychologists, board-certified behavior analysts, English language tutors and occupational therapy assistants), all committed to making a positive impact on students' lives.

Jennifer Reed, Mid-Ohio ESC’s Director of Human Resources, said “This event is meant to draw new and seasoned educators and support staff to the area where the need has been great. Our goal is to centralize the search and connect qualified candidates who share a passion for education with the opportunities available right here in our communities.”

Participants should hold or be actively pursuing current education licensure by August 1st and be prepared to interview with a cover letter, resume and references. MOESC Asking Buckeye Central Local Schools Community for Feedback

Mansfield, OH (February 7, 2025) – The Buckeye Central Local Schools Board of Education approved a contract at its meeting Thursday, February 6, 2025 that allows the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center to assist the district in finding their new superintendent. Mark Robinson plans to retire later this year after more than a decade with the district.

Mid-Ohio ESC is requesting assistance from staff, parents, students and the community for Buckeye Central Local Schools. An online questionnaire is now live asking for feedback about what the community deems important for their district superintendent. Responses to the questions will help the Board of Education develop a profile of leadership qualities to assist in the search for the new superintendent.

The questionnaire can be found at https://www.moesc.net/human-resources/executive-search. Surveys may be submitted by responding to the Google survey through the link. Grade 4-8 Academic Challenge January 2025 Results

Mansfield, OH (February 4, 2025) – The 4th-8th grade academic challenge teams opened their season this month. We want to congratulate all competitors but especially our winners for each tournament.

“It is always fun to start the academic challenge ‘season’ for our districts and students,” says Rebecca Kidney, tournament director. “We added several new districts and teams this year to the various levels of competition. And once again, all of our coaches have done a phenomenal job preparing their teams for the start. It’s going to be an incredible year!”

Wooster B placed first with a score of 108. Wooster B is made up of Andrew Jeon, Davey Michel, Auggie Mealey, Seton Holmes and Jaxson Walter. Colonel Crawford A, with a score of 106, took second place. Colonel Crawford A consists of Owen McGrady, Mason McGrady, Mia Jones, Sammy Rose and Rhylee Wheeler.

Wooster A was the champion with a score of 107, and there was a tie for second place between Mansfield Spanish Immersion C and Wooster C both with a score of 100. Wooster A includes Katie Bradham, Asher Dewald, Charlie Fishburn, Zoey Thompson and Dorian VanGra. Mansfield Spanish Immersion C is made up of Chase, JJ and Carolyn. Wooster C consisted of Jack McGrady, Matthew Norris, Chelsea Schantz, Harrison Sutter and Lexi Zvolensky.

Lexington A took first place with a score of 99 while Mansfield Spanish Immersion B took second place with a score of 92. Lexington A is made up of Ben M., Ina G., Monte C. and Emily S. Mansfield Spanish Immersion B consists of Levi Etzel, Paxton Kenyon, Anabella Richards, Calvin Walter and Zackory Walter.

There was a tie for 1st place in the 7/8th grade tournament. Colonel Crawford A and Lexington A had 105 points. Lexington A was made up of Carter G., Axl L., Coulter S., Jesse S. and Noah T.

Mansfield, OH (January 29, 2025) – The 2025 Mid-Ohio ESC spelling bee season is off to an impressive start. The Richland County Bee took place on January 23, 2025. Forty-one students from ten districts competed to be crowned champion of the bee. The bee lasted over two hours until a champion and runner-up could be determined. Spelling took place for twelve rounds until 8th grader Owen Doan from the Mansfield City School District became champion by spelling the word “disagreeable.” The runner-up was Coulter S., a 7th grader from Lexington Local School District.

The Crawford/Morrow County Virtual Spelling Bee occurred on Tuesday, January 28th after two weather delays. Twenty-nine students from seven districts competed to be crowned champion of the bee. The competition spanned five rounds before Paxton Zornes, a 4th grader from Wynford Local Schools, became champion by correctly spelling the word “acoustic.” Ashlyn Craig, a 6th grader from Colonel Crawford Local Schools, became the runner-up.

The Mid-Ohio ESC spelling bee season includes the Crawford/Morrow County Virtual Spelling Bee, The Richland County Virtual Spelling Bee and the Tri-County Spelling Bee. Top performers from the Crawford/Morrow County Spelling Bee and Richland County Spelling Bee will advance to the Tri-County Spelling Bee on Thursday, February 13th at 6:30 p.m. Spectators are invited to attend.

Colleen Haynes, the spelling bee coordinator for Mid-Ohio ESC, said she appreciates all of the spelling bee's participating districts and their continued support of Mid-Ohio's student events. "Congratulations to all the spelling bee participants. We hope the experience of a spelling bee encourages a love for learning and the pursuit of lifelong knowledge!"

Open Registration for February 2025 Network Meetings

Mansfield, OH (January 21, 2025) – Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center is dedicated to promoting professional development among area educators, administrators and other staff. Registration is currently open for our next round of network meetings in February to be held on the Mid-Ohio campus, 890 W. Fourth Street in Mansfield. During the scheduled network meetings, additional information about Ohio's Learning Standards, Extended Standards and practical challenges will be given. These meetings are designed to provide a combination of professional learning, ODE updates, networking and collaborative problem-solving. The dates and times for each session are as follows: 

  • Speech-Language Therapists: February 4, 2025; 8:30-10:30 AM
  • Psychologists: February 10, 2025; 1:30-3:30 PM 
  • Occupational Therapists & Physical Therapists: February 5, 2025; 8:30-10:30 AM 
  • Testing Coordinators: February 7, 2025; 1:00-2:30 PM 
  • Art Teachers: February 14, 2025; 12:30-2:30 PM
  • School Counselors: February 18, 2025; 9:00-10:30 AM
