Parent Mentorship

Supporting Families, Empowering Students

At Mid-Ohio ESC, our Parent Mentors provide information and support to families of children with disabilities, working closely with school districts to strengthen the home-school partnership. As both educators and parents of students with disabilities, our mentors understand the challenges families face and are dedicated to guiding them through the special education process—at no cost to families.

How We Help

Our Parent Mentors assist families by:

  • Navigating the Special Education Process – Helping parents understand IEPs, 504 Plans, and other essential services.
  • Clarifying Rights & Responsibilities – Breaking down the complex terminology and ensuring parents are informed about their legal rights.
  • Providing Meeting Support – Attending meetings with parents to support their child’s needs.
  • Connecting Families – Linking parents with other families in similar situations to foster a supportive community.
  • Offering Resources & Training – Sharing valuable information from conferences like OCALI (Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence) to help families access the best resources.
