MOESC Offering Leadership Development for School Leaders

Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center is now accepting registrations for a leadership development opportunity designed for prospective school leaders and newly appointed school principals, directors, and administrators. This five-part learning series will focus on the knowledge, skills, and responsibilities of effective school leadership.

The series will provide leadership development to current and aspiring school leaders that is focused on both developing clear expectations and policies and on managing people through change. Rather than inspirational and aspirational training about generalized approaches to leadership, the 7C Commitment Framework offers a concrete and operational framework school leaders can use to define the change they want to see, plan implementation strategy, and engage people so they commit rather than comply.

The program will consist of five two-hour in-person learning sessions. Each session will feature new learning on current and relevant leadership practices, Ohio law/Board Policy, and strategic improvements/planning. Participants will be requested to contribute to in-person sessions through the sharing of thoughts and ideas. The dates of each session are January 17, February 7, March 21, April 25, and May 11. Each session is from 4 to 6 p.m., and they will be held at Mid-Ohio ESC, 890 West Fourth St. in Mansfield.

During each learning session participants will be engaged in one hour of professional development on components of the 7C Leadership Commitment Framework. During the second hour of the learning session participants will be treated to a panel discussion of local leaders, who will make connections between new learning and real-world applications. Each panel discussion will conclude with a question-and-answer session.

Between each learning session, participants will have content-specific activities to complete fostering learning into action. These hands-on experiences and activities are designed to make the learning personal and tangible using local school data and observation.

Dr. Mark Burke, Mid-Ohio ESC’s Executive Director of Achievement and Leadership, said as an added benefit of the training, Mid-Ohio will maintain a list of potential leaders completing the training who are seeking future leadership positions. “Districts will be able to contact us when searching for quality candidates for leadership vacancies,” he explained. “MOESC will now have the capacity to send each candidate’s resume and cover letter. Our goal is to connect amazing leaders with building and district-level administrative positions.”

Registration is currently open at https://tinyurl.com/moescleader, but limited to the first 25 participants. There is no fee for client district personnel. College credit for this leadership development is available, but the 2 semester hours must be paid by the participant. For more information contact Dr. Mark Burke at burke.mark@moesc.net or 419-774-5529.
