Shawna Benson, Center for Teaching Diverse Learners, with OCALI, will be presenting via zoom on the importance of knowing Ohio’s Learning Standards and Extended Standards deeply, along with utilizing the progressions to fill students’ instructional gaps. This work ties into understanding the Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities, the flow chart for determining students who will be assessed using the AASCD and provide teacher clarity for providing a rigorous core instruction for all. In addition, Shawna has done extensive work in the areas of special education and literacy that applies the tenets of the science of reading so that each child has access to the general curriculum.

Kerry Agins a lawyer with Agins & Gillman, LLC will be presenting. This in-person training will address practical considerations and challenges associated with implementing the Dyslexia guidebook requirements for primary and secondary. This intermediate-to-advanced training will go beyond a simple understanding of the provisions, and address implementation strategies, practical advice, and anticipated challenges that Districts may face with the process of implementing the assessment, reporting, intervention, and training requirements inherent in the Guidelines.
