MOESC to Host English Language Learners Newcomers Workshop
Mansfield, OH (May 1, 2024) – The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center will host an English Language Learners Newcomers Workshop on Monday, May 6th, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
The training is based on the June 2023 release of the U.S. Department of Education Newcomer Toolkit and will be presented by MOESC EL Tutors Demrie Alonzo and Charis Bower.
The workshop will cover:
- Who Are Newcomers?
- Welcoming Newcomers and ELLs to a Safe, Inclusive, and Thriving School Environment
- Supporting Newcomers’ and ELL’s Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs
- Providing High-Quality Instruction to Newcomers and ELL’s
- Establishing Partnerships with Families
The workshop costs $75 for client districts and $90 for non-client districts. An electronic tool kit is included in the cost.
Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center provides specialized academic and support services to 13 school districts and over 20,000 students in Crawford, Morrow and Richland Counties. Client districts receive services from curriculum, gifted and special education consultants, speech pathologists, psychologists, special education teachers, occupational therapists and physical therapists
